SoPYC make a clean sweep at Claremont on Sunday

The traditional Lloyd Anderson Marathon time trial and buffet luncheon was hosted by Claremont Yacht Club on Sunday morning. Invitation events are now included the CPYC State Heat series calendar. The fleet of 28 boats included 5 of our SoPYC team.

More than 100 competitors and guests, enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch and refreshments before Commodore Darren Chatfield announced results. Congratulations to Amazon, Steve and Amanda 1st 5 pts, Tikkityboo, Jason and Caroline 2nd 10 pts and Thanet, Guy and Richard,12 pts., collecting 3rd pennant. The handicap trophy was won by Smooth Moves from RPYC.

Elevating the invitation events of our kindred clubs, to State Heat status, requires an experienced CPYC Start Team to scrutinise and assist the host club with administration and results calculation.

Step in our Team… regular volunteers behind the scenes, Garry Morrison and Brian Smith assisted Claremont’s Roger Hunt to execute the event without a hitch. PC Frank Dalglish and Barb, who were expecting to do a land check,instead swung into action in the CYC start box to hoist flags in correct sequence, before heading back inside to listen to tapes. Bernie & Lana Kaaks and Val Barron, trialled the new iPad video ap from land at Applecross and pinged a few changes of speed , Greg and Valerie Power and Jenny onboard courier boat Heathcote, calculated they had just 14 minutes to set anchor, ready to also do a checkpoint at Deepwater, before re collecting Checkpointers, including Mal Taylor & John Edwards, and returning them to CYC. Thankyou to all our SoPYC volunteers for giving up your long weekend Sunday. The next State Heat is the Seafarer Trophy at RPYC on Saturday 19th June 1000 start.

This week’ event is the Cliff Spence Memorial Trophy. NOTE… The Captain and Vice Captain will be on the microphone at the podium ready to draw names for free drinks, dinner vouchers at 1730. Competitors are reminded to be off your boats and up into the bar to claim your prize by then. Doug will be in the bar selling the raffle tickets for the new price and double prize money. 6 tickets for $10.

Power Section Apparel. We have no stock of power apparel. Are members keen to order new styles of jackets or shirts with the new Power Section logo? No decisions on styles yet just gauging interest… please speak with Maria Cook or Amanda Watson.
