TrySail is our introductory sailing course for children aged 7-10. The course aims to deliver a fun on-water experience for kids to try the sport of sailing at an affordable entry price. The course is run by Australian Sailing accredited instructors and incorporates games, adventures, and group training drills to develop fundamental skills in a safe environment. There isn’t a court, pitch, gymnasium, or an oval like other sports, instead, you have the beautiful Swan River to explore.
TrySail is run over four 2.5 hour sessions. The course runs throughout summer with course options on Saturday or Sunday mornings, and additional midweek courses during school holidays. TrySail has a special price of $150 during school terms and $200 during the school holidays.
Once sailors have completed a TrySail course they may receive an invitation* to join our Optimist Green Fleet weekly training group to continue developing their skills and passion for the sport of sailing, or alternatively may complete a few extra TrySail sessions to further develop confidence and skills in the boat before progressing.
The courses run for four 2.5 hour sessions, the costs are $150 for School Term Courses and $200 for Holiday Camps.

*The invitation to join Green Fleet is based on an assessment made by the coaches and head coach, primarily around safety awareness, confidence, and competence on the water. Factors such as listening, behavior, commitment, coachability, enjoyment, support of family, size and age all play an important role in the enjoyment and success of the sailors and the whole group.
