“Oodles of Strudles“
A clean sweep for our fleet at Friday’s CPYC Presentation Night at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club. Thanet won both the State Champions Trophy and the Bob Stanford trophies. Runners up were Brazen with Dalusional in third place.
Congratulations to Skipper PC Guy Skinner and navigator Richard Evans. Thanet is the slowest power boat in our fleet and both Guy and Richard identify as “yachties”! They were gracious in congratulating and commiserating with fellow skipper Tracy Leveridge- Smith and Anthony Smith who successfully campaigned their tender, Brazen, the fastest in our fleet at 15knots, who finished just behind in second place. RC Troy Dalglish with navigator Victoria Blanckensee took third place. Once again South of Perth dominated to win the Teams Event.
Delicious Corica Strudels are awarded with each trophy, supplied by sponsor David Bovell Our tables won the lions share Guy made an amusing acceptance speech explaining Thanet is unlikely to ever be penalised for change of speed with an approximate range of 5.2 to 6.3 knots. Guy then paid emotional respect to Katie’s father, who bequeathed Thanet to Guy, after he died.
Brian Smith, the CPYC Chairman, acknowledged the committee and thanked wife Tina. They form an amazing “double act“ to conduct the evenings speeches and prize giving ceremonies smoothly and effortlessly. The food, wine and hospitality at Freshie was, once again perfect.
Garry Morrison was pleased to invite onboard Lone Star 10 winners and flags for the journey over and back to Freshie. Onboard were the Commodore John and Rose, looking dapper in his new Square Rig RC Troy and Victoria, Power Captain Mark & Jared, Winning navigator Richard and Fran and 2 place Tracy & Anthony.
Sunday Monday Hosting Hillarys
A bus load of cherpy Hillays Yacht Club members arrived at 11 am, as first stop on their “Club Crawl” which also included Swan and Fremantle Yacht Clubs. Captain Mark Hayman welcomed the group who enjoyed bar refreshments and tea and coffee.
Bernie set up the Time Trialling promotion video which impressed and had them thinking of how their Club could get involved with the sport.
