It’s all Keelboats this week with the Jane Brook Wines Midweek Series starting on Wednesday and the Canning Bridge IGA Frostbite Series continuing on Sunday.  If you are thinking about joining in on the Rules Sessions starting next Monday, you do need to register first in order to comply with COVID room capacity limitations.

If you’re not aware, Australian Sailing are producing weekly webinars on various topics relating to yacht club matters. They are quite informative and very current. The first 3 are available at the bottom of this newsletter. Catch the next one this Thursday.

We’re looking for crew to ride shotgun on the Club’s safety boat ‘Heathcote’ on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons escorting the Keelboats during racing. We have a some regulars already but any additional help would be welcome. If you have some boating skills and pocess some agility commensurate with working on a large, fast rhib, please let us know ">.

Equipment Audit Forms, yes they can be done online and I hope Keelboat skipper’s have managed to include it on their To Do’ lists. Read further on on how to lodge it via Yacht Safe. One thing to keep in mind when pondering on the race category selection, next season we’re off to Rotto and that will be Cat 6. Boats that normally race on the river but would also like to venture “offshore” as part of the Billy Run, submitting a Category 6 form will suffice for both – river & Billy Run.

While we wallow in endless drifters here in Perth, did you hear that the world sailing speed record has been broken again? At a highly classified location somewhere in France on a board the Goodies would have been been proud of, Pierre Mortefon’s tridem windsurfing team redlined at 67.17 knots! Word around the traps is that the H28s are preparing a challenge.

Applecross Cup Action Day 3

Thanks to Mr. Weatherman, we all knew to expect light conditions last Sunday and that’s exactly what we got. It was Group 1’s turn this time after their first series was abandoned last month. Everyone managed to ghost around the cans and get 4 races in before the worst of the weather bore down. Our candid camerman, Rick Steuart was lurking around and caught many unawares. Take a look at his compilation by clicking below. Group 2 will be next on 09 August.

Equipment Audit Forms

Keelboat skippers, please note that your Equipment Audit Forms have now expired as of June 30. To be eligible to compete in the new season starting from Opening Day on Oct 4, a new Equipment Form must be submitted online. Most, if not all Skippers have had their previous Audit form submitted online via YachtSafe already, so it should be relatively easy to resubmit a new form in time for your first race of the new season and the good news is that you can view your previous form in Past Audits on your YachtSafe dashboard.

Australian Youth Championship – 10 to 14 January 2021

Australian Sailing is currently working through the impacts of COVID-19 on the planning of the Australian Youth Championships scheduled to be held at South of Perth Yacht Club (SoPYC) 10 – 14 January 2021.

We acknowledge that the confirmation of the event going forward is critical to the planning for athletes, parents, coaches and the Host Club. Australian Sailing will communicate by mid-August on the Australian Youth Championships.

The health and safety of the Sailing community is the priority throughout our planning process.

Yacht Trackers

On Water Group are trialing yacht tracking software that is capable of tracking all boats in an event via an App. We are looking for just a few boats to add to Keelboat racing, currently Midweek and Frostbite races. If you interested and don’t mind taking your electronic device with you on the water, please let us know. It is envisaged that every race can be viewed from the Club’s website and replayed at anytime.

Australian Sailing Club Conferences

The conferences bring together clubs from across the state and are a great way to engage with other clubs and AS. Hear from industry experts and learn from your peer clubs as they share success stories and best practice ideas that can help develop skills, capacity and further improve your club.

Australian Sailing is making our annual Club Conferences accessible to all this year. By cancelling the physical attendance components of each state’s Club Conference, we will be delivering a national agenda online instead. In order to help those who still have concerns about travel and mass gatherings at this time, this more easily accessible format will be run this year only.

Click here for further details including the schedule. This Thursday at 4pm AWST Joel Steendam from Network Steadfast will talk about club insurance.
