On Water Group News has had a facelift. After the late nights it took to create this, the Editor could use one too!  So what’s news this week? Firstly, the Midweek Autumn Non-Series Series is coming to an end and we’ll be back in business with a return to our pre-COVID Jane Brook Wines Midweek Series next week. 2019-2020 Season Winners, we didn’t forget you. Trophies and prizes are planned to exchange hands very soon. With the new racing rules now out, our spirited and zestful Rules Chair, Christina Heydon is ready to explain what in tarnation all that fine print means. Take the opportunity while it’s quiet and attend the rules sessions.

Applecross Cup Action Day 2

Perfect conditions experienced by the various international classes competing on Day 2’s Applecross Cup Series. Hardly an extreme Winter’s day thanks to the northerly breeze. It was good to see support from the Moths and we welcomed the Waszp class for the first time.  Another class new to the Applecross scene was the Open Skiffs (formerly known as Open Bic). We expect to see a lot more of them in the near future. Some fantastic shots are available on Perth Sailing Photography – thanks Rick! Access Rick’s complete photographic coverage of Day 2 by clicking on the button below. This coming Sunday is for Group 1 classes – Pelicans, 125s, Flying Fifteens, Windsurfers and Bic Techno 293s. Remember to show your pearly whites for the camera.

Safety & Sea Survival Course Certificates

Australian Sailing has just announced that all current SSSC certificates now have an 18 month extension to the 5 year validity period. See the official notice via the button below.

Equipment Audit Forms

Keelboat skippers, please note that your Equipment Audit Forms have now expired as of June 30. To be eligible to compete in the new season starting from Opening Day on Oct 4, a new Equipment Form must be submitted online. Most, if not all Skippers have had their previous Audit form submitted online via YachtSafe already, so it should be relatively easy to resubmit a new form in time for your first race of the new season and the good news is that you can view your previous form in Past Audits on your YachtSafe dashboard.

Australian Youth Championship – 10 to 14 January 2021

Australian Sailing is currently working through the impacts of COVID-19 on the planning of the Australian Youth Championships scheduled to be held at South of Perth Yacht Club (SoPYC) 10 – 14 January 2021.

We acknowledge that the confirmation of the event going forward is critical to the planning for athletes, parents, coaches and the Host Club. Australian Sailing will communicate by mid-August on the Australian Youth Championships.

The health and safety of the Sailing community is the priority throughout our planning process.

Yacht Trackers

On Water Group are trialing yacht tracking software that is capable of tracking all boats in an event via an App. We are looking for just a few boats to add to Keelboat racing, currently Midweek and Frostbite races. If you interested and don’t mind taking your electronic device with you on the water, please let us know. It is envisaged that every race can be viewed from the Club’s website and replayed at anytime.

Australian Sailing Club Conferences

The conferences bring together clubs from across the state and are a great way to engage with other clubs and AS. Hear from industry experts and learn from your peer clubs as they share success stories and best practice ideas that can help develop skills, capacity and further improve your club.

Australian Sailing is making our annual Club Conferences accessible to all this year. By cancelling the physical attendance components of each state’s Club Conference, we will be delivering a national agenda online instead. In order to help those who still have concerns about travel and mass gatherings at this time, this more easily accessible format will be run this year only.

Click here for further details including the schedule. This Thursday at 4pm AWST Susette Evans from Princess Royal Sailing Club will talk about marketing strategies.
