With only two races into the fifteen-race Twilight Series, it’s not too late to enter your boat and still remain competitive. Please note that the time limit is 19:56 for this Wednesday’s Twilight race and next week it will be 20:08. With a later time limit means a later start time giving you a little more time to get yourself sorted before the race start. Please remember that the 1st warning signal will be 1820 for next week’s Twilight race.

This Saturday our friends from the Farr 9.2 Association will be with us again, starting ahead everyone else. Spacesailer 22s and the Viper 640s are both having their Club Championship races while all other divisions are racing for consistency points.

Please note that while the SoPYC safety boat Heathcote is receiving some necessary maintenance, a substitute safety boat will be providing safety coverage for Keelboats races but towing capacity may limited or not available. Skipper’s please consider utilising your Fremantle Sea Rescue membership benefits if a tow is required.

Racing Rules of Sailing

Presented for your benefit are a series of sessions on the racing rules of sailing by the Club’s Rules Chairperson, Christina Heydon (National Judge).

Sessions are relatively brief starting at 11:30am and designed to finish in time to allow you to grab a bite and ready your boats in good time prior to the Midweek afternoon race. You will be well equipped to put your knowledge into practice during that days race.

Each week a new scenario is presented for review prior to the class and a healthy discussion ensues on the day ably led by Christina.

Follow the progress of the class by visiting the Racing Rules section on the SoPYC website: https://sopyc.com.au/on-water/racing-rules-sailing/

Skippers, crew and others invited to come along. Bookings not required

TWILIGHT SERIES

Experience racing into the sunset and finishing under a brilliant summer moon that only the Twilight Series can offer. If you’re lucky you may even catch the ISS streak overhead. Twilights have been designed with short courses to keep boats relatively close to the Club and being jib and main only boats are not so dependant on skilled crew required for spinnaker work, keeping in line with the more relaxed style of racing Twilights are known for.

GOOLUGATUP SAILING CARNIVAL – 04 TO 14 JAN 2021

With the unfortunate cancellation of the Australian Youth Championships due to COVID-19, SoPYC is announcing a special replacement event for Off The Beach classes on Melville Waters. A Preliminary Notice of Race is now available and entries are open. This event includes the State Championships for both the 29er and the Optimist classes. While national events are being cancelled or postponed left right and centre across the country and borders closed, rest assured there will opportunities to compete with some of the best right here at home.

As the name suggests, this will be more than just a sailing event. A variety of activities and attractions are planned around Coffee Point to keep the family entertained. Much more information will be forthcoming in due course. Please stay tuned!

Marathon Races

The Marathon Races for both Division 3 and Red Witch fleets are coming up soon. For either fleet, there is no additional nomination required. If your boat is already in the Saturday Series, your boat is already in the Marathon races. Click the button below for further information.

S80 Legends Race

SoPYC plays host this year to the very special event that brings back all those yachting greats to relive those memories racing S80s. All S80 skippers past and present are invited to participate on Wednesday 25 November 2020. For further information please click on the button below for the Notice of Race.

REMOTE CONTROL YACHT RACING

There is a regular group of Members who meet each Friday afternoon at 3pm on the Western Hardstand for a couple of hours of intense racing and camaraderie.

Visitors are warmly welcomed to sit and watch or even give it a go. You only need to ask.

To register your DF95 yacht for racing, simply use the entry button below and select the Singlehanded classes section.

Equipment Audit Forms

Skippers, please note that your Equipment Audit Forms have now expired as of June 30. To be eligible to compete in the new season starting from Opening Day on Oct 4, a new Equipment Form must be submitted online. Most, if not all Skippers have had their previous Audit form submitted online via YachtSafe already, so it should be relatively easy to resubmit a new form in time for your first race of the new season and the good news is that you can view your previous form in Past Audits on your YachtSafe dashboard.

Yacht Trackers

The ability to replay club fleet races is now available. Try the free Yacht Bot tracking software yourself. It can be downloaded and installed on your smartphone or tablet via an App. If you interested and don’t mind taking your electronic device with you on the water, please let us know. Past races can be viewed using the button below.
