Schweppes Applecross Cup Series is done and dusted for another year! Thanks to our sponsor Schweppes and support from Boating Hardware  as well as our tireless and dedicated team of volunteers who work through rain, hail and shine just to bring you the best competition possible.

Congratulations to those winners listed here and well done to all those who competed over the last few months. We are now looking forward to bringing you another honking winter full of sail. For full results, please – click here

Skipper’s Pre-Season Briefing is on this Wednesday for any Keelboat Skipper who wishes to learn more about the upcoming season and be best prepared. The new Red Books will be there for collection as well as the Keelboat Sailing Instructions. Briefing kicks off at 6:30pm in the Ballroom following Midweek Series presentations. Here is your chance to speak directly to the Race Officers and get some heads up on the new edition of the Racing Rules of Sailing from Rules Chair Christina Heydon.

Speaking of the upcoming season, now would be a good time to get your boat entered via the online entries menu and to submit your Equipment Audit. If anybody is having difficulty lodging via Yacht Safe, please use the paper forms and On Water Group staff will assist you in getting it online.

Please register for Paul Eldrid’s talk on sail trim for next Monday 21 September. Paul has a wealth of knowledge so it would be a good idea to use this opportunity.  Look for the registration button below.

We hope to see you this Sunday from 5:30pm for the Keelboat Awards presentations on the front lawns following the final Frostbite race. Sailors are quite welcome to come as they are from their boats to attend. Food and drinks available from the cash bar.

Keelboat Sign On

Keelboats competing at SoPYC have a simple sign on procedure that lists all crew on each boat racing on the day. It is recommended that this link gets bookmarked on your browser for quick access. Crew can be easily added or dropped for each race but always stored for future use.

Offshore Racing Season 2020-2021

Ocean Racing WA are now accepting entries to the 2020-2021 season.  South of Perth Yacht Club will be running 2 new events this season –

  • Navigator’s Time on Distance Race – Sunday 11 October 2020
  • Night Race – Saturday 10 April 2021

Entries for these races along with all the other offshore races can be made online all through the ORWA website via the button below.

Remote Control Yacht Racing

There is a regular group of Members who meet each Friday afternoon at 3pm on the Western Hardstand for a couple of hours of intense racing and camaraderie.

Visitors are warmly welcomed to sit and watch or even give it a go. You only need to ask.

To register your DF95 yacht for racing, simply use the entry button below and select the Singlehanded classes section.

E-Racing

Now there really is something for the armchair sailor. Join us each Thursday starting at 2pm for some close short racing online. New sailing venues each week:

Aarhus   Auckland   Cagliari   Copenhague   Cowes   Fecamp   Hong Kong   Kiel   La Trinite sur Mer   Marseille  Newport   Palma de Mallorca   Porto Cervo   Portsmouth   Rio Janeiro   San Francisco   Sydney

Equipment Audit Forms

Skippers, please note that your Equipment Audit Forms have now expired as of June 30. To be eligible to compete in the new season starting from Opening Day on Oct 4, a new Equipment Form must be submitted online. Most, if not all Skippers have had their previous Audit form submitted online via YachtSafe already, so it should be relatively easy to resubmit a new form in time for your first race of the new season and the good news is that you can view your previous form in Past Audits on your YachtSafe dashboard.

Yacht Trackers

On Water Group are trialing yacht tracking software that is capable of tracking all boats in an event via an App. We are looking for just a few boats to add to Keelboat racing, currently Midweek and Frostbite races. If you interested and don’t mind taking your electronic device with you on the water, please let us know. It is envisaged that every race can be viewed from the Club’s website and replayed at anytime.
