Support for last week’s prize nights was awesome! Thank you to all those who braved the cold, miserable weather to get here.

This weeks Midweek race includes a pursuit race for Division 3. Please note from recent changes to the Midweek Sailing Instructions that a pursuit race can now be shortened by the Race Officer.

DoT have been working ahead of schedule with their river mark replacement program. The new Sampson Spit is now in place as well as an orange pimple buoy in place of Bond Spit.

This Sunday, 6 June is race 4 of The Good Grocer Frostbite Series starting at 1400. If you haven’t nominated for this event, there is still time. The entry button can be found in the Frostbite section below or go to Online Entries at www.sopyc.com.au.

The next instalment of the OTB Winter Series is Sunday 13th June. Classes racing that day include 125, Flying Fifteen, Pelican, Windsurfer LT and Bic Techno. Entries are still open. Please scroll down for further details.

A reminder to those keen on brushing up on their Racing Rules, the workshop sessions begin in 2 weeks – Monday 14 June starting at 1800. Room will be advised.

Attention Midweek sailors: Just as a general bit of advice, following the start and when the RPYC boats are charging down towards Foam Buoy for the first time, do try to keep well clear of that area otherwise your pleasant afternoon sail could turn into a real demolition derby. We want to avoid ugly scenes like this, so after rounding Sampson Spit, pass Foam Buoy (55) to starboard and stay safe.

Alright, that’s it. Let’s roll!     Hey, let’s be careful out there.

WINTER RULES SESSIONS

Keelboat, Off the Beach Boats and Kiteboaders, your Rules session “workshops” commence in June 2021.

Years ago, the rules sessions were Lectures, which later became a mix of Lecture/Tutorial. This year we will be changing to a Workshop/Tutorial format. We have a constant core of sailors who have been advancing their rules knowledge every year & the new format will enable these Core sailors to keep advancing & not get bored.
The “Core” sailors consist of a range of demographics. I would like the experienced sailors to step up and present their tactics and how they use their knowledge & the rules to advance around the course. Then the group can discuss both the tactics and the relevant rules.
The sessions will start at 1800 & last for one hour. It will be beneficial to come to every session as every session will be different & you will be expanding your knowledge from one week to the next. If you cannot attend every week, that is OK, because each week is a stand alone session.
This group has a strong bond which has been created over the years & I hope that experienced sailors who have not attended will come to the sessions to assist & mentor others. Experienced sailors need competition!!!!!
Experienced Sailors we need your assistance so that everyone will benefit and the less experienced Sailors, it is time to get into the heads of the boats at the front!

REMOTE CONTROL YACHT RACING

There is a regular group of Members who meet each Friday afternoon at 3pm on the Western Hardstand for a couple of hours of intense racing and camaraderie.

Visitors are warmly welcomed to sit and watch or even give it a go. You only need to ask.

To register your DF95 yacht for racing, simply use the entry button below and select the Singlehanded classes section.

EQUIPMENT AUDIT FORMS

Skippers, please note that your Equipment Audit Forms have now expired as of June 30. To be eligible to compete in the new season starting from Opening Day on Oct 4, a new Equipment Form must be submitted online. Most, if not all Skippers have had their previous Audit form submitted online via YachtSafe already, so it should be relatively easy to resubmit a new form in time for your first race of the new season and the good news is that you can view your previous form in Past Audits on your YachtSafe dashboard.

YACHT TRACKERS

The ability to replay club fleet races is now available. Try the free Yacht Bot tracking software yourself. It can be downloaded and installed on your smartphone or tablet via an App. If you interested and don’t mind taking your electronic device with you on the water, please let us know. Past races can be viewed using the button below.
