Best of luck to everyone traveling over the next month.  I’ll be in Victoria with the Youth Sailors.  Will try to do some reports whilst away.

Recovery

The thing you have all heard is that the boat that wins normally makes fewer mistakes than their competitors.  So this means being smart, fast and recovering quickly when things go wrong.

There was a very good example of this recently in the 49er Worlds which saw Peter Burling do a rare mistake and miss the trap handle on the way through a tack.  The video link below shows the action and it was an amazing recovery.  You will see Peter quickly grab the rear foot strap and Blair Tuke (upfront) control the boat without a rudder. Pete simply climbs back on and away they go and set about moving from 9th to 4th and winning their 5th World Championship.

Rig Development

It’s great to see the 125’s doing some good old fashion R&D.  This often gets overlooked in the off the shelf one-design boats generally around.  Recut luff rounds and rig changes now starting to show some better VMG modes.  Keep up the good work.

MOB

Not sure if anyone saw the Italian Moth sailor fall out of the boat and his boat kept sailing and finished without him.  Unfortunately finished DNF as you need to be on the boat.
