The predictions were correct for State Heat 2, the heavy rain and strong winds blew across Melville Water from mid-afternoon. The start team made the early call to cancel the event, to the relief of many.

Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club’s hosted presentation evening still went ahead. A  delicious buffet dinner was enjoyed by over 100 attendees followed by dancing.

With no suspense from results, Chairman Troy Dalglish and Vice Chairman Brian Smith devised a dice game to be played by each “table-team”.  It involved rolling two dice, one to give a “score” the other to apply a penalty.  Loads of fun with Elise Manners’ table of guests each winning bottles of Verse 1 wine. The generous sponsors also donated $100 gift vouchers as door prizes. Oh and of course, the much anticipated Corica Strudels supplied by David Bovell.

Results from Heat 1 were announced by surprise guest Garry Morrison, who flew in from Exmouth for a few days before returning to crew on Fonster cruising up the WA coast. Garry officiated as Starter for Heat 1 which saw a 3-way tie for least points. On a countback, RC Michael and Maria Cook (M&M’s) took the first place honours from PC Guy Skinner and Richard Evans (Thanet) and RPYC boat Cosmos equal second.

Heat 2 re-run is scheduled as a doubleheader, morning and afternoon events on 7th September.

Next week, fingers crossed for the return of fine weather for the Ray D Carter trophy event.

A reminder the following weekend (Sat 6th July) is the TiTu Invitation trophy followed by the German theme Kindred Club night with German-style food, beers and band.  No cost for ALL members and guests to attend, however, don’t forget you must nominate for the TiTu time trial and make a reservation with the SoPYC office for the German Night, please.
