Last Saturday was another picture perfect winter’s day, with a light breeze and bright sunshine bringing out not just a good fleet of time triallers, but also many yachties keen to exploit the beautiful weather on the Swan.

It was hardly a surprise then, that no less than nine boats returned single-digit scores ”off the stick”, indicating the extraordinary talent we have in the fleet at the moment.

Unfortunately, Club champion Brett Morrison was stuck on his offshore rig and missed yet another event, making his chances of retaining his title this season even more difficult. With boats like Amazon, Dalusional, Thanet and Magnifique all putting in solid performances each week, the tussle for the coveted 400 numbers is hotter than ever.

John and Pauline Spence were invited to the Club to present the trophy and pennants which honoured their father.

Our visitors in the banana boat, Ray and Gary Smith, continue to revel in the opportunity to practise their craft, finishing with just nine points lost.  If they continue at this level, we may have to ban them or they’ll be too serious a threat when they represent their home club, Royal Perth – joking of course!!

Alan Wilson and Nikki Kukura dropped just 14 points to claim first place in the port fleet, ahead of Dave Millard and Jordan Fry who were second with 17 points and John and Lynne Cooper on 18 points.

The podium finishes in the starboard fleet were decided by countback with both Open Circuit and June 17 scoring 14 points. Jim Gooding and Keith Salkeld placed third while Stephen Elliott and Paul Ward piloted June 17 to second place.

The clear winner though, with least points lost and 11 points total, was Thanet (Guy Skinner and Richard Evans) who received the trophy from John and Pauline Spence, a fitting end to a great day on the Swan River.

Tony Walther celebrated a birthday and allowed everyone to share it by ringing the bell, and John Cooper, who seemed to be in the spotlight all day, took out first AND third in the raffle, sharing his good fortune by ringing the ball also.
