Election of Management Committee
“At the AGM on Wednesday 5th September there are multiple contested elections for Flag Officer and Committee positions. It great to see this because it indicates a healthy club with an active and engaged member base. This is however the first such contest for some years and for the benefit of voting Members, who are financial Ordinary, Centreboard, Honorary Life, 60 Year Honorary Life Members and Country Members and must be present on the night to vote or have lodged an Absentee Vote, I thought it was timely to remind everyone of Rule 4.9 which is in the Rules to inform Members of the type of conduct our Club expects of them in the lead up to the votes being cast.”
CONSTITUTION & RULES & BYLAWS
4.9 No Member of the Club, whether a candidate for election or not, shall directly or indirectly, by letter, telephone, circular or any other writing or by advertisements, canvass for votes for any candidate for election to any office provided however that the Management Committee may, after the close of nominations, publish or cause to be published in the monthly newsletter issued by the Club, a notice containing such particulars of the candidates for election as the Management Committee may from time to time determine and include the full names of the candidates and the respective positions held by them in the Club and a record of the service of each candidate in the Club.

SoPYC House Survey
The House Committee have designed this survey as part of the House Operational Plan which was adopted by the Management Committee in September 2017. The House Operational Plan 2017-2018 was developed over five months and can be accessed on the Members Portal on the SoPYC Website. If you are having difficulty accessing the portal, please contact the office on 9364 5844.
What will the survey success for?
The information gathered will be used to plan for Club activities/facilities/services and to plan for your membership expectations now and in the future. We would be grateful for your participation in this process so that we can take steps to provide, wherever possible, what it is that members want of the Club.
What will happen to my information and the survey results?
All electronic responses will be lodged directly to Perth Market Research. Responses lodged in hard copy at the Club (post or via box) will be passed to Perth Market Research who are conducting the analysis of the results. The information you provide will remain completely anonymous and confidential. Information provided will only be used for the purpose of this survey and will not be provided to any third party. All contact details will be destroyed following the prize draw.
How long will it take to complete?
The survey should take between 6 to 7 minutes to complete.
Club members who complete the survey will be eligible to take part in a prize draw for one of five (one each for sailing, centreboard, power, ocean racing, cruising) $100 dinner vouchers. At the end of the electronic survey, you will be prompted to go to a separate page where you can provide your name and any contact details. On the paper version of the survey, you can add your details to the last page which needs to be detached and placed in the survey box located in the Admin Office. This is being done on a separate page to ensure the anonymity of your response.
You can locate copies of the survey at:
- The Club House (Reception and the Yachtsman Bar). You can collect a blank survey or lodge your survey in these areas. Responses will be given to Perth Market Research)
- The Members Portal page of SoPYC website in the "Forms" area.
A copy of the survey can be posted to those who request a copy. This can be dropped back off to the Club or posted to South of Perth Yacht Club, Coffee Point, Applecross WA 6153.

A proposed change to Half Yearly
General Meetings
Each year the Club holds two general meetings of members – the Annual General Meeting held each September, and the Half Yearly General Meeting which is held in April each year to set various subscriptions and fees. There is often a difficulty getting a quorum for these general meetings.
As part of the current project of updating the Club’s governance documents to comply with new laws governing associations like the Club, management committee is considering a change so that the Half Yearly General Meeting would only be held if there were a proposal to increase subscriptions and fees by more than CPI (that is, CPI + 2%), or if there was other business that couldn’t wait until September. As there may be strong opinions about making such a change, the Club would be interested in hearing members’ thoughts about this, before we finalise a draft to put to members formally.
If any member would like a copy of the current draft rules (which are being drafted to replace the current constitution) and current draft bylaws (which are being drafted to replace the current rules), please let the Club know and a copy will be sent. The Club welcomes any comments on the drafts.
