Injured dolphin at the club needs your help

Dolphin crop
A dolphin and her calf have been frequenting the marina, probably due to the calmer waters. The mother has fishing line caught on her dorsal fin which is filling up with debris and weed. Mum also has an infection on her skin which is probably caused by her immune system not working properly. To keep Mum and bub healthy they need to be caught so that Mum can be treated and freed from the fishing line. If members see her can they please contact Wildcare on 9474 9055. Any photos that can be taken of Mum and her calf and shown to the Wildcare Officers are appreciated.

New Security Company Engaged by SoPYC

After a lengthy tender and rigorous selection process we are pleased to advise members that MCS Security has been engaged to provide security services to SoPYC. The company will provide on-site static guard services seven evenings a week, Saturday morning gate control during the summer sailing season and crowd controller services at SoPYC functions. The new guard contact number is 0413 362 877 so please discard the old security contact number that you may have in your phones as the company that the number is attached to is no longer a provider at SoPYC. Members will be notified of the new number via the Club App (Member Point) and a general bulletin. The number will also be available on the website and members portal. They are off to a good start and the action of Kevin the first rostered MCS guard resulted in identifying a minor fire aboard a powerboat on jetty 6. He was assisted by Brett and Garry Morrison, and John Cooper who were close by playing cards on Purrfect. Thank you to everyone involved.

SoPYC House Survey

Shortly, Members will receive an email link to a survey developed by the House Committee as part of the House Operational Plan which was adopted by the Management Committee in September 2017. For members' information, the House Operational Plan 2017-2018 was developed over five months by a committee consisting of the Vice Commodore, three House Committee members, General Manager and the Food and Beverage Manager. The full report can be accessed on the Members Portal on the SoPYC Website.

The Plan is designed to implement the strategic direction given by the South of Perth Yacht Club’s Strategic Plan 2016-2020. The Strategic Plan charges the House Committee with accountability for four main strategies:

 Facilitate and conduct member surveys to set baselines for satisfaction ratings and establish targets for improvements.
 Develop specific strategies with professional staff (through the General Manager) to improve satisfaction measures.
 Review the nature, scope, duration and timing of club functions with a view to maximising their appeal to the broad spectrum of members.
 Review the current state and potential enhancement of facilities with a view to optimising their utilisation.

Strategic Results for House will be measured in three Key Result Areas - Financial Performance, Member/Guest Satisfaction Ratings and Staff Engagement.

The role of the House Committee is to focus upon the development, implementation and review of the House Operational Plan to assist in achieving the Club’s strategic goals. Day to day matters are handled directly between member representatives and appropriate professional staff, such as the Food and Beverage Manager or the General Manager. The plan has an annual cycle which will be implemented from September to September. The Plan was developed through extensive feedback from House Committee and representatives of all associated committees and the Management Committee.

The information gathered will be used to plan for Club activities/facilities/services and to ensure that your membership provides what you want in the future. We would be grateful for your participation in this process so that we can take steps to provide, wherever possible, what it is that members want of the Club. Our testing shows that the survey should take between 6 to 7 minutes to complete.

Club members who complete the survey will be eligible to take part in a prize draw for one of five (one each for sailing, centreboard, power, ocean racing, cruising) $100 dinner vouchers. At the end of the survey, you will be prompted to go to a separate page where you can provide your name and any contact details. This is being done on a separate page to ensure the anonymity of your response. Hard copies of the Survey will be available at the Club and responses can be lodged in a box to be passed to Perth Market Research who are conducting the analysis of the results. The information you provide will remain completely anonymous and confidential. The information you provide will only be used for the purpose of this survey and will not be provided to any third party. All contact details will be deleted following the prize draw.

Her Membership responsibilities will be taken over by Ashleigh Damore who has acted in the role assisting Lynda for the last three months. Please welcome Jess & Ashleigh.

A proposed change to Half Yearly

General Meetings

Each year the Club holds two general meetings of members – the Annual General Meeting held each September, and the Half Yearly General Meeting which is held in April each year to set various subscriptions and fees. There is often a difficulty getting a quorum for these general meetings.
As part of the current project of updating the Club’s governance documents to comply with new laws governing associations like the Club, management committee is considering a change so that the Half Yearly General Meeting would only be held if there were a proposal to increase subscriptions and fees by more than CPI (that is, CPI + 2%), or if there was other business that couldn’t wait until September. As there may be strong opinions about making such a change, the Club would be interested in hearing members’ thoughts about this, before we finalise a draft to put to members formally.

If any member would like a copy of the current draft rules (which are being drafted to replace the current constitution) and current draft bylaws (which are being drafted to replace the current rules), please let the Club know and a copy will be sent. The Club welcomes any comments on the drafts.
Please send any feedback to management@sopyc.com.au
