South of Perth Yacht Club wins the 2019 Club of the Year Award
South of Perth Yacht Club is announced as a winner of two awards at the Club Marine Marina of the Year awards.
“Club of the Year” and “Best Environmental Initiative by a Marina”.
David Harries and Jessica Oakley pictured with Andrew Chapman, President of the Marina Industries Association attended the MIA Marinas 2019 International Conference and Trade Exhibition and accepted the two Awards at the Awards Dinner on behalf of the Club.

As the recipient of the Best Environmental Initiative by a Marina Award SoPYC supports the Marina Industries Association Policy to eliminate single use plastics used in clubs and marinas around Australia by 2025. This is particularly pertinent for the hardstand and vessel maintenance and packaging that spares and equipment are wrapped in when purchased or delivered to members and suppliers. Elsewhere within the Club, the kitchens and bars are also confronted by plastic packaging. SoPYC has moved away from plastic straws in the last six months and will be looking at ways to eliminate single use plastics wherever possible.

FROM THE OWG OFFICE

Centreboard sailors, parents and supporters would know what a great and convenient service the Galley provides on any given Sunday racing day. Sadly though, it’s becoming a real strain for just one person to manage alone. Rather than have to shut up shop, let’s try and give a helping hand and keep the Galley going. Let me tell you that if the kids aren’t able to get their bag of mixed lollies, or worse still, I don’t me stretchy green Killer Pythons the consequences are not worth thinking about.
The Galley is scheduled to be open again this Sunday for the Applecross Cup Series. If you or know of someone else that could spare a couple of hands, please sign up as a volunteer – click here. No experience required. An experienced person will always be there to guide you.
Galley operating times: Open 0845 to 1330 Closed during racing Reopen 1530 to 1700
If you need further information, please contact the Galley Co-ordinator, Karen Lingard

SoPYC has utilised an online volunteer roster for the past 2 years and now intend to expand its scope to include the Centreboard Galley, Support Duty (Yachting events) and Checkpoint Duty (Time Trials) rosters. The main benefit to Club Members is that the latest information is always accessible and interactive. This will be implemented over the next few months in stages allowing plenty of time for further information to be provided to Members. The roster can be accessed via the Volunteer webpage. If Members wish, they can create a profile now or one will be created for you in due course.
An App for all Members is available to download for free on your smartphone or tablet.
Have access to the many handy functions: Crew Finder, Crew Profile, Member’s Directory, view your POS Accounts, view your voucher Accounts, update your membership details, Club News and Events, Push Notifications, Club Calendars and weather plus receive instant alerts!
