On what couldn’t have turned out to be more perfect conditions, the Power Yacht Section's annual Christmas party took a change in direction from previous years and pulled together for a raft-up on the Western Hardstand. With well over 150 members and guests in attendance and a mix of both sail and power boaties, all were treated to live music …

Over the next 2 weeks, you may receive an email requesting confirmation of relevant on-water certifications. It would be very much appreciated if you could take the time to have them ready for us. Once this exercise is complete, and OWG have compiled the data, appropriate refresher courses and up-skilling can be offered for our volunteers. These courses will be widely publicised and members are encouraged to participate.

The breeze wasn’t quite as strong as predicted on Sunday but still enough for 3 solid races with some great rides under spinnaker. Andy and Anne (A2) were fastest for two races and John and Kevin (She Who Must Be Obeyed) fastest in the other one. Consistency winners were Greg and Leanne (Enuff Rope), John and Kevin (She Who Must Be Obeyed) and Kim and Neil (Aussie Way). See the SoPYC website for the full list of results.
Sad to report that the “Person Overboard Trophy” will have to stay in the cupboard this week as all sailors managed to stay above the waterline of their respective craft. Either everyone is becoming a bit more aware of their footing or the favourites for the award are still drying out from a big effort earlier in the season.
Another busy weekend coming up with heats 3 and 4 of the Club Championships on Sunday starting at 1325hrs preceded by the David Knight Short Course Regatta in the late afternoon of Saturday.

S80 Legends Day - Tomorrow! 28th November 2018
The S80 Association is conducting their annual Legends Day race at SoPYC this year.
We are inviting all ex S80 sailors (Legends), to participate in lunch at the Club, followed by a jam race and then a presentation of the Ron Tough Memorial Trophy after the race.
This race has proved immensely popular with 24 S80's participating last year and a similar number are expected to front the line again this year. Many past skippers and crew have already nominated but we would like to see you all there on the day. It is a day where you can renew old friendships, tell tall tales and quench your thirst after an exciting day on the river.
If you would like to be part of the fun (and why wouldn’t you), please contact Wally Philippe on 0417 948 449 or walphilippe@westnet.com.au and I will arrange a place for you if you wish to sail or possibly a place on a power boat as an observer. Don’t procrastinate. Contact me now.

As we headed off to Mangles Bay the weather was very hazy with visibility of around 1.5 nautical miles. It made for an eerie but interesting trip down especially when a cargo ship emerged out of the mist behind us! 6 power and 2 sail boats, 26 people and 3 dogs went down on Saturday for another great weekend at …
