Flying Fifteen Update
The long weekend had the Flying Fifteen fleet heading southwards to the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club for a short series of races in the turquoise waters of Comet Bay. You know you’re in for a great regatta when the sailing instructions are contained in one page! After the course configuration was put to the vote at the briefing, it would normally be down to the serious stuff but the light and variable easterly required a very active sense of humour. Carl and Kristine ( Faffin ) kept their emotions in check to win the first race with Hamish and Muddy ( Playtime ) from Freshie in second place.
The sea breeze filled in hard for the second race and Greg and, South of Perth’s newest World Champion, Brian DeVries ( Spot the Difference) held the lead early before capsizing. Jen and Adam ( Yes,No, Maybe) had the rig come down around their ears while Nic and Janet (Ineffable), sailing together for the first time this season, went on to win.
Sunday produced an easterly that was just as every bit as “entertaining” as the previous day but that didn’t faze Nic and Janet who won races 3 and 4 by very healthy margins and then retired for the afternoon to leave Hamish and Muddy to win a hastily scheduled fifth race.
Thanks and well done to Ross Davidson of MOFSC and our own Kim Peaker and Fleet Captain Tim for a relaxed and friendly regatta while still maintaining that competitive edge.
Alarmingly, we are getting near the business end of the season with Club Championship heats 9 and 10 next Sunday at the normal start time of 1325hrs.
